# Welcome to Screensaver World (SSW)

[Screensaver World ](https://screensaver.world)is a community driven platform for artists to publish and sell their art using the technology of the [blockchain](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blockchain), [cryptocurrency](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryptocurrency) and [NFTs](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-fungible_token).

The platform currently works in the blockchain and technology known as Polygon, this is a very inexpensive and clean blockchain in terms of enviromental impact, this is very important as the main blockchain used for NFTs is Ethereum which is causing a big negative enviromental impact as [carbondrop.art](https://www.carbondrop.art/#climate) states:

> The minting of NFTs (...) is done using the Ethereum network, whose single transactions may require up to 50 kWh of electricity (an amount that a large house consumes over 2 days). While it is a challenge to calculate the exact carbon footprint of a single Eth transaction, the impact is still relevant. A migration into a Proof-of-Stake protocol by Ethereum would significantly reduce the network's carbon footprint.
